Look at the stack sitting on my work table. This is the next quilt I am making.

Preview of a Coming Attraction

Went to Galveston, TX this past weekend. The Lone Star Rally was going on in town. The Galv News said 400,000 people attended the rally this year. The rally was in addition to the two cruise ships docked over the weekend. It was a lot of fun! There were motorcycles everywhere.
Can you guess what I might be doing with the t-shirt in the picture? Stay tuned for more clues.

Pretty Blue Quilt

The blue laurel wreath blocks are done. There are only 12, but each block has 49 pieces! Started assembling the quilt top and it is pretty. Also, finished 13 blocks of the second quilt. Put it aside for the moment while I finish the blue quilt.

The start of two quilts

Two projects are in progress. The pretty blue Laurel Wreath blocks are for a Chritmas present quilt. The multi-color blocks are for another quilt in the style my grandmother would have made (read about her in my prior entries). I enjoy making quilts with pieces of fabric that seemed to small to keep.

Sam and Baby continue to manage the projects. Baby sits on her quilt on a chair under my work table and Sam sits in the window!

Queen size Log Cabin Quilt

I have been attempting to make quilts my grandmother would have made. This Log Cabin quilt was made with leftover fabric from many, many projects.

John's Quilt

John is a friend of a friend, but he had time to come to Galveston and help us tear out the inside of our house after Hurricane Ike left four feet of water inside. I made him a t-shirt quilt as a small thank you.

The Elvis Quilt

My friend asked me if I could make an Elvis quilt for her mother-in-law for Christmas. That question stopped me for a second! My response was yes, if Elvis fabric was available. Went to my favorite quilt and fabric stores. No Elvis fabric. Had to order the fabric from an Etsy shop (love Etsy, my shop name is Sam Baby Studio).

OK, so now I had the Elvis fabric, but what do I do with it. I decided on an Elvis sampler. Mixed in a few other fabrics and there you go!

Christmas Quilt

I have been busy. Completed a Wine and Grape quilt top and made a Christmas quilt. The Christmas quilt was made for a Christmas present and it featured Santas. The quilt was to place on the back of a couch, so the Santas needed to be visible regardless of the direction of the quilt.

The quilt has a Snta in each corner and the sides. Each Santa faces out. No matter how the qult is positioned on the couch, Santa will be visible. A couple pictures are attached.

Went to the quilt Asylum in McKinney on Saturday. That store is appropriately named, I was crazy trying to decide what i wanted and trying to restrain myself. Ended up purchasing labels and a min quiltws runner kit for Christmas. I'll post a picture when it is done.

Black, White and Red All Around

I have been sewing binding down and taking pictures for a couple days now. The picture today is the Black, White and Red All Around quilt. The backing is bright red!

This pattern looked like fun, so I made it.

My Father's Marriage Quilt

This is the only quilt top I have made by my grandmother. It was my father's marriage quilt. My grandmother made it sometime between 1926, when my father was born, and 1947, when my parents were married.

My grandmother gave my mother the quilt top in the mid seventies.

I received the quilt top in 2002 when my mother passed away. I quilted the top to honor both my mother and grandmother. Both are missed.

The top is made from very small pieces of fabric and is hand pieced.

Carolina Chain

I told you on June 19th the picutres of the Carolina Chain would be posted when it was finished. Well, it's done! Here are the picutres.

Now, I'm sewing on the binding to a Christmas Jars quilt and the Twelve Moons quilt is ready to be quilted.

The pictures of my grandmother's quilt, the only one I have will be posted soon. Photporaphy is not one of my talents!

Evelyn and Lewis

My parents were married in 1947. My grandmother made my father a marriage quilt top, but it was not quilted when my mother received it in the mid 70's.

I am not sure of the date of the pictures, but it was not too long after they were married. The pictures were taken on the farm my where grandparents lived.

My Quilting Grandmother

My father's mother was a frugal farm wife in Southern Indiana. She was also a talented quilter. She did not go to the local quilt shoppe to purchase her fabric and patterns. Her quilts were made from whatever was available, usually worn out clothes.

The attached picture is of my grandparents, Herschel and Pearl.

Matt and his quilt

I finished Matt's quilt, woo hoo. It is 97 by 97 inches and the binding seemed to take forever. The front of the quilt has 25 blocks made from t-shirts and 4 yards of frabric.

Matt was here last night and I got his picutre with his quilt.

Matt's T-Shirt Quilt

The quilt center is assembled and one border is done. All that's left is the outer border. I believe my son will be surprised when I give him the quilt. Maybe he will let me take his picture with his quilt.
The fabric with the t-shirt blocks is a black and cream weave pattern. The outer border is burgandy and cream in the same pattern. The fabric really makes the t-shirts stand out.

The start of Matt's quilt

My son brought me a stack of t-shirts about a year ago and asked me to make him a quilt. He told me he had more shirts to add and would bring them over. I went out and bought the fabric to go with his shirts. Well, to date I haven't gotten any more shirts and decided to go ahead make the quilt with the shirts that were here.

I decided on a design and cut the shirts. They were stacked neatly on my work table waiting to be sewn together. Sam must have liked them too. The fabric he is sitting on is the shirts for the quilt.

The next picture is the start of the quilt. Two rows are done.

Hard Rock T-shirt Quilt

This quilt was made for a hard rock fan. He had been collecting t-shirts for many years and had quite a few of them. He had so many I couldn't fit them on one side of the quilt. So this quilt has t-shirts on the front and the back.

I used black fabric with flames to match the theme of the quilt. I took several pictures of the quilt, but all the pictures look like it's moving!

This is another picture from Galveston, TX. Two huge cruise ships docked at the same time and dwarfed the downtown area. The picture was taken from the Pelican Island bridge by my sister in law, Audrey.

Tomorrow, more quilting and cats!

Fourth of July

We went to Galveston, TX for the Fourth of July. It was a long weekend from Friday until Tuesday and it rained every day except Sunday. Got a little sun though. And I shopped at a quilt store in Texas City, TX called Cactus Quilts. Bought a new pattern book and a very nice quilt kit. The website is http://www.cactusquilts.com/.

We discovered Galveston in 2005 and have been going there every since. The picture is from Bike Week 2007 and was taken by my sister in law, Audrey. The cruise ships dock VERY close to the Strand, which is downtown Galveston.

T-Shirt Quilt

One of my friends had me make a t-shirt quilt for her husband's birthday. The border has antique cars since he like to restore cars. His picture is on a t-shirt in the quilt.

One talented Quilter!

My friend entered two of her quilts in the Mesquite, TX Quilt Show. Look at the ribbons she won.

Make A Wish Quilt

My son works for Maggiano's at Northpark. They support the Make a Wish Foundation and he asked me to make a quilt out of Make a Wish t-shirts for a fundraiser. They gave me a bag of t-shirts all the same. I had to think about it a while, then came up with the design in the picture. The border is a magician waving a wand and the blue fabric is stars.

Sam likes to help too

Baby likes the finished quilts. Sam likes to be involved in the entire process. He helped me quilt yesterday by laying on the qulting table. He stopped all progress waiting for attention. Isn't he cute?
